Rick Hendrick plans to open an Audi dealership Tuesday at his Northlake location, his fourth at the site near Interstates 77 and 485.
The dealership joins BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz locations at Hendrick Northlake. Hendrick said the location has performed well so far, with sales of more than 5,200 vehicles in 2013, up 70 percent from 2012, when the auto mall opened.
“I think the location helped,” Hendrick said.
The area north of Charlotte is growing fast, and most of the dealership’s customers have come from north and west of the city. I-485 is also nearing completion and will connect near the dealership.
“This market up in this area is growing like crazy,” said Hendrick.
Sales at the company’s dealerships on Independence Boulevard for the same brands are up about 11 percent, the company said, indicating that the new dealerships aren’t cannibalizing the company’s sales.
The new Audi dealership is 53,000 square feet, said John Desmond, the company’s market area vice president. The dealership is two floors, with 20 service bays in addition to the showroom. There are more than 200 Audis in stock at the location, Desmond said.
The company also added a gas station to its site in order to make up for the lack of a nearby fueling facility, Hendrick said.
In other growth in the area, a Super Walmart recently opened across the street, and the Bryton mixed-use development is expected to eventually feature millions of square feet of office, retail and residential locations.
Hendrick Automotive Group operates almost 90 dealerships in 13 states.
