Charlotte Douglas International Airport kept its spot as the eighth-busiest airport in the U.S. last year, according to new figures released Thursday.
The airport had 43.5 million passengers in 2013, up 5.4 percent from 2012. Worldwide, Charlotte Douglas was the 23rd-busiest airport, the same ranking as 2012 as well.
In terms of the number of takeoffs and landings, Charlotte Douglas ranks higher. The airport was the sixth-busiest in the nation and seventh-busiest in the world, when measured in the number of planes coming and going. Many of the flights at Charlotte Douglas are smaller, regional jets.
Charlotte Douglas had 557,948 aircraft takeoffs and landings in 2013, up 1.1 percent from 2012.
