Electrolux to invest $30M more in S.C. refrigerator plant

Electrolux is investing $30 million in its Anderson, S.C., refrigerator plant, the company announced Wednesday.

The company makes top-mount and under-the-counter refrigerators at its 810,000-square-foot plant in Anderson, where it also employs 1,900 full-time and contract employees.

The new money will add advanced manufacturing capability and enhance capacity, the company said.

“Our primary focus at Electrolux is on the development of new innovation, based on consumer insight, that delivers high-quality products our consumers depend on,” said Jack Truong, CEO of Electrolux’s North American division.

The investment announced Wednesday comes in addition to an earlier $30 million investment Electrolux made in the facility; it added a refrigeration research and development center and other improvements.

Electrolux North America has been expanding aggressively in the Carolinas. Late last year it announced plans to add more than 800 workers at its headquarters in Charlotte’s University Research Park. And in March, it unveiled a new laundry research and development center, which is bringing 60 research jobs to the city and grew the company’s local employment to more than 900. Eric Frazier
