Chobani Greek Yogurt is closing its Charlotte office and relocating fewer than 20 jobs to New York City, the company said Friday, two years after the company announced it was bringing its North American sales headquarters to Charlotte.
Spokesman Peter Duda said the move is intended to consolidate the company’s sales and marketing workers and will bring the sales staff closer to Chobani’s upstate New York manufacturing facilities.
“We believe a centralized and optimized organization will enable us to better serve our customers,” said Duda, who didn’t give an exact number of the jobs relocating.
In April 2012, Chobani leased 5,200 square feet on the 16th floor of Charlotte Plaza Building, on South College Street, in uptown. The company said at the time that it planned to bring up to 60 workers, with an average salary of $70,000.
Chobani recently secured a $750 million loan from a private equity firm as the company looks to expand. Chobani could go public in 2015, according to media reports.
