Low-cost, vacation-oriented airline Allegiant Air has extended its flight schedule at Concord Regional Airport and plans to double the number of weekly flights from Concord to Orlando.
Starting Nov. 2, the carrier will offer flights to Orlando’s Sanford International Airport four times a week, up from the current twice-weekly schedule. The airport will have scheduled service Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday most weeks, with additional flights occasionally scheduled Wednesday.
Allegiant started flying from Concord Regional in December, as the airport’s first scheduled commercial flights. Since then, the airline said the flights have performed well, with more than 90 percent of seats filled on most.
The airline’s new schedule at Concord Regional runs through February.
Las Vegas-based Allegiant only flies from smaller markets to vacation destinations. The airline keeps fares down by flying older aircraft it buys cheaply and operating out of secondary airports. Allegiant also charges a wide range of fees, such as $10 to $75 for carry-on baggage and $5 to print a boarding pass at the airport.
