Low-cost bus company Megabus said Tuesday that it has added a daily route from Charlotte to Athens, Ga., in addition to its existing service from the city.

The company is offering fares from $1 to $30 each way on the new route. Megabus’s online schedule shows between one and three daily bus trips from Charlotte to Athens, depending on the day, with buses leaving at 7:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

In Charlotte, the buses leave from South Brevard Street, between 3rd and 4th streets. In Athens, they will arrive at the city’s downtown transit center on Broad Street.

Megabus also goes from Charlotte to Durham, New York City, Richmond, Va., Washington, D.C. and Atlanta.

The company’s double-decker blue buses have become a familiar sight uptown since the company started service to Charlotte in 2010. Megabus has been growing in popularity in recent years, as airfares and gasoline stay high and encourage many travelers to look for alternatives to flying and driving.
