The developers of a planned hotel at East Worthington and Cleveland avenues in Dilworth have bought the land for the project, real estate records show.
Worthington Partners LLC in late June bought the approximately 1.2-acre parcel where its affiliate, Catellus Group, won city approval earlier this year for a planned hotel with up to 130 rooms.
Worthington Partners bought the property for $2.5 million from a group called Bailey Family of Mecklenburg County Alpha LLC. Catellus has said the hotel would have a restaurant and bar on the sixth floor with a skyline view terrace.
During the rezoning process, neighbors expressed concern about the size of the hotel and the traffic it might generate. City staff members ultimately said it was consistent with their plans for development along the light-rail line in South End.
City Council approved the rezoning in March on a 7-4 vote.
