Wells Fargo gears up to host thousands at Quail Hollow golf tournament in Charlotte

Wells Fargo is gearing up to host as many as 3,000 clients at Quail Hollow Club next week at the bank’s signature golf tournament in Charlotte.
And changes to the course might make the experience a sight better than in previous years, said Kendall Alley, the Wells Charlotte region president.
A new “Green Mile Village” on the old 16th-hole fairway will offer tournament goers a new vantage point on the action, with food, cocktails, merchandise and a big video screen. The new configuration of the back nine holes will give the bank’s guests a better view of multiple holes at a time, previously blocked by trees.
“It’s really going to enhance the experience,” Alley said.
The tournament, which kicks off this year on Monday with a pro-am event, is always a key business development opportunity for Wells bankers. The bank’s various divisions have an allotment of tickets to dole out to key clients.
Chief Marketing Officer Jamie Moldafsky, who is based in San Francisco, and Charlotte-based corporate communications head Oscar Suris, are scheduled to be on hand. Local executives David Carroll, who heads wealth, brokerage and retirement; and Rob Engel, head of investment banking and trading, will also be there.
CEO John Stumpf is not slated to attend. Former chief executive Dick Kovacevich, a tournament regular, will miss the event this year, Alley said.
Clients will be treated to several meet-and-greets with professional golfers and Gary Williams of the Golf Channel. The wholesale and community banks will also host clients at Wells Fargo’s uptown offices on Thursday night.
Wells Fargo is planning another $100,000 donation to the First Tee of Charlotte, a nonprofit that helps youths learn life skills through golf. Several PGA tour players will be on hand to teach a kids’ clinic and speak about the importance of a coach or mentor in their lives, which Alley said is a theme for the week.
Current Wells Fargo employees who are also military veterans will again be given the chance to tend the pin on the 17th hole. Instead of a traditional hole flag, it will be adorned with the U.S. flag.
Wells has donated $5,000 worth of concession vouchers to the local USO, which serves soldiers and their families.
