A developer is planning to bring a major new mixed-use development to a vacant site on Rocky River Road in northeast Mecklenburg County, according to a rezoning request filed recently with the city of Charlotte.
The 77-acre site covered by the rezoning petition is located at the interchange with the recently completed Interstate 485 outer loop. Another part of the site the developer is targeting is directly adjacent, in Harrisburg just over the Cabarrus County line.
Charlotte-based MPV Properties filed the rezoning request on Monday. The company couldn’t immediately be reached for more details on the proposed development.
According to the rezoning request, the site could see the development of:
▪ Up to 515 residences of various types, including townhouses.
▪ A movie theater.
▪ A hotel with up to 120 rooms.
▪ Restaurants, shops and other commercial uses totaling up to 190,000 square feet (including the hotel and movie theater).
Charlotte City Council will hold a hearing on the rezoning request and vote on it in the coming months.
