A developer is planning to bring a new hotel and more commercial development to a mostly vacant site in the fast-growing area around Northlake Mall.
A rezoning request filed by a company affiliated with ABC Inns shows plans for a seven-story hotel on a 6.2-acre site, located at Point O’Woods Drive and Northlake Centre Parkway. That’s next too the mall, an apartment community and other commercial developments.
The ABC-affiliated company bought part of the site in 2015 for $750,000, real estate records show. The other parts are owned by other individuals, who have signed on to the rezoning request.
A site plan doesn’t give the number of rooms, but indicates the developer also plans to build two other commercial buildings on the site. Those could be used for restaurants, shops or offices.
Pritesh Nagarji, a principal at ABC, didn’t return a request for more information about the site on Monday. ABC was founded in 1979, and has focused on developing hotels along the Interstate 77 and Interstate 85 corridors. The Northlake site is right off I-77.
The company’s developments include a Comfort Inn & Suites in Statesville, a Comfort Suites near Charlotte Douglas International Airport and a Sleep Inn at I-77 and Sunset Road. Charlotte City Council will hold a hearing and vote on the hotel proposal in the coming months.
The area around Northlake has been growing fast. Last year, the mall’s owner announced a $50 million expansion, while Woodfield Investments is working on a second phase of its Northlake apartments, with hundreds planned. Just south of Northlake, City Council approved in December a plan to build up to 235 more apartments on Reames Road.
