With all the new construction going on in Charlotte, it’s easy to lose track of what’s open and what’s still underway.
In uptown, the new 615 South College office tower opened last month. The Embassy Suites hotel on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and the Springhill Suites across from the Spectrum Center arena both open to guests. And the Museum Tower apartments are signing up tenants, with the first units open as construction wraps up.
But there’s a lot more to come. Here are three of the biggest buildings that are planning to open later this year:
▪ 500 East Morehead: Just outside of uptown, workers are putting the finishing touches on a 180,000 square-foot office tower that will include restaurants on a busy stretch of East Morehead Street.
▪ 300 South Tryon and the city’s first Kimpton Hotel: At Third and Tryon streets, a new, 25-story office tower and hotel are taking shape. The office tower is expected to open in late summer, with Barings as its anchor tenant, while the 217-room Kimpton is targeting a fall opening, likely in October. The buildings will also include restaurants, a “linear park” running along Third Street from Romare Bearden Park and a rooftop bar and venue at the Kimpton.
▪ Crescent Stonewall Station: Directly adjacent to the Stonewall Station stop on the Blue Line light rail, Crescent Communities is well underway on a new mixed-use project. The first units of the 450 apartments in the development are planned to open in late 2017. After that, a Whole Foods on the ground floor is set to open – uptown’s second grocery store – and two hotels are planned on the site as well.
