Charlotte-based development company Levine Properties has hired a longtime real estate executive as director of construction and development, the company said Monday.
David Smith has worked in development throughout the southeast for 30 years. He’s the second hire this year by Levine Properties of a veteran developer to help shepherd the company’s pipeline of projects.
Levine Properties, headed by Daniel Levine, is wrapping up construction on First Ward Park, set to open next month. Levine is planning to build two hotels, an office tower, a large parking deck and apartments uptown, as well as a hotel in midtown and apartments in Plaza Midwood. In June, the company hired Steve Smith to the newly created position of chief operating officer at the company.
David Smith and Steve Smith previously worked together at Disney Development Company, developing retail, dining, lodging and entertainment projects.
“David’s energy and expertise in creating and overseeing destination resorts, multifamily residential and retail ventures will add immediate value to our growing project portfolio,” said Steve Smith, in a statement.
David Smith said the diverse products Levine is planning to build are appealing.
“Given my background, I found the mix of product types in Levine Properties’ portfolio and pipeline combined with the chance to work with my former colleague, Steve Smith, again very appealing,” said David Smith, in a statement.
In addition to Disney, David Smith has worked for local development companies including Northwood Ravin, Southern Land Company and Crosland.
