Don’t think the apartment boom in South End is finished: More are on the way as the latest apartment project gears up to start construction.
The Bainbridge Companies won a rezoning last year that will allow 210 new apartments at South Boulevard and Poindexter. The building will be seven stories tall, with an internal parking deck, and will take the place of a parking lot and a one-story commercial building currently on the site.
Bainbridge filed initial paperwork with the city of Charlotte last week as a prelude to getting necessary permits for construction. The site is adjacent to the Blue Line light rail, a focal point of South End’s apartment boom.
And Bainbridge is far from the only apartment building underway in South End. Two blocks north, Solis Southline is under construction, across from Silos South End. Solis, a 300-unit building, should be complete in October 2017.
A block south, Marsh Properties has started work on its redevelopment of the Sedgefield Shopping Center. The company is building a new Harris Teeter, shops and restaurant space first, with a new apartment building set to start in the fourth quarter this year. And just one block further down South Boulevard, Lennar Multifamily plans to redevelop the Pepsi Bottling site into a new, mixed-use community with, yes, more apartments.
