A vacant site at a prominent corner in South End could soon see more than 100 new apartments, according to preliminary plans filed with the city of Charlotte.
The northeast corner of South Tryon Street and Tremont Avenue is the site of a new project identified as “Tremont Apartments Phase 2” in plans filed Friday. The land is adjacent to the Three30Five apartments, a recently opened upscale building.
According to the plans, the Tremont site would include a 104-unit, four-story apartment building with two levels of interior garage parking. There would also be a 10,000 square-foot retail or restaurant building with surface parking and a 2,000 square-foot office and retail building, the plans show.
The 2.4-acre site is owned by 2001 South Tryon LLC, a corporation affiliated with Chris Branch, an executive responsible for apartment development at Charlotte-based firm Faison. He couldn’t immediately be reached for more information on Friday.

The new plans are the latest evidence that South End’s apartment boom isn’t over yet. Across the street from the Tremont Apartments Phase 2 site, on the other side of Tremont Avenue, developer Pollack Shores is planning to build a new, 350-unit apartment building. Nearby, at 216 Dunavant Street, Faison is planning to build 368 units, while Solis Southline, a 300-unit building, is under construction at South Boulevard and Remount Road.
