The popular Irish bar/restaurant Workman’s Friend is expanding in Plaza Midwood.
Preliminary planning documents call for an expansion of the restaurant into the adjacent vacant tenant space at 1533 Central Ave., at the corner of Thomas Street.
The project planner who submitted the paperwork could not be reached for comment on Wednesday. A call to the pub’s manager, Doug Dawson, was not returned.
The Plaza Midwood stretch along Central Avenue has seen its share of development in recent years, with thousands of apartments, several restaurants and other retail spots underway. The two buildings behind the Dairy Queen on Central are undergoing renovations, for instance, and could soon be home to new tenants, including a restaurant and a nail bar.
Workman’s Friend opened in late 2015. The pub has a menu full of Irish fare, including fish and chips, sausages and sliders. Its bar menu includes Irish whiskey, local beer and more.
