It looks like Publix is getting closer to opening its highly anticipated store on Randolph Road in Cotswold.
The Florida-based grocery chain sent out a press release Thursday afternoon detailing a job fair it will host April 19-21 to staff the new store. The fair takes place from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. all three days at the Hilton Garden Inn in SouthPark at 4808 Sharon Road.
Publix won't say when exactly it'll open its Cotswold store — only that it will be sometime in the second quarter. But if history is any indication, the store could open in mid-June.
On Aug. 5, 2014, Publix said it was hiring more than 100 people to staff its new store in Huntersville on Gilead Road. The grocer opened that store on Oct. 9.
The new Cotswold Publix has been in the works for a while, and it has generated a lot of buzz since it is directly across the street from its closest competitor, Harris Teeter.
Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix opened its first North Carolina store in Ballantyne in 2014.
The company has been expanding rapidly since then, often building its stores in close proximity to Harris Teeter stores (as in the case in South End and University City too). Publix is the No. 4 grocery chain in Charlotte by market share, according to the sales-tracking firm Chain Store Guide.
