House of Brews, a home brew supply shop run by a husband and wife duo, will open its first brick-and-mortar store on June 6 in South End.
The new shop is at 3611 Tryclan Drive, right off South Boulevard. It will sell home brew supplies like grain, hops and yeast, as well as home brew equipment. According to its website, the store can take requests to order any brewing materials it doesn’t normally carry.
During its grand opening Saturday, House of Brews will host a bottle share in which home brew enthusiasts can bring some of their homemade beer and exchange it with others.
The store will also put on monthly education sessions on home brewing, co-owner Heather Lewis said. She started the company as an online store almost two years ago with her husband, Patrick. He handles the brewing, Heather said, and she handles the business.
Patrick started brewing his own beer about four years ago, his wife said, and has made a special brew – Shelby June Peach – for every big milestone in their 2-year-old daughter’s life, including a baby shower and birthdays.
“It’s something we really take pride in,” Lewis said. “Obviously she doesn’t drink it.”
Lewis said House of Brews doesn’t currently have a license to sell alcohol, though someday they hope to get one to operate as a small bottle shop.
