Publix will open its latest Charlotte-area store in Concord on Dec. 2 at 7 a.m.
The Florida-based supermarket’s newest store is in Willow Oaks Crossing at 5015 Weddington Road, just over a mile from a Harris Teeter store down the road.
Publix has been expanding rapidly in the Charlotte region since it entered the market with a Ballantyne store in early 2014. It competes closely with Matthews-based Harris Teeter and often positions its new stores in close proximity to Harris Teeter stores.
Publix, which opened a store in South End in April, recently said it will open its first Lake Wylie store Nov. 11. The grocer also recently executed a lease for a 49,000-square-foot store in Hickory that will open in late 2016. Also in 2016, the grocer plans to open stores in Prosperity Village, Mooresville and Gastonia. It will open a Statesville store in 2017.
Publix was the No. 6 grocery store in the Charlotte metro area by market share in 2014, according to sales-tracking firm Chain Store Guide. The grocer operates 14 stores in greater Charlotte, which includes Fort Mill, Indian Land and Rock Hill.
