SouthPark mall will host its annual tree lighting celebration in Symphony Park Wednesday to mark the holiday season. The free event lasts from 6 to 8 p.m.
The mall also said Tuesday that it has completed a number of previously announced interior renovations, including refinished columns, new luxury seating, enhanced Wi-Fi and updated signs. Exterior upgrades – including upgraded LED lighting, fountain improvements and a redesigned valet stand – will be done in January.
SouthPark’s lighting celebration Wednesday will include an array of family-friendly entertainment, including face-painting, a quartet of Dickens carolers, refreshments and pictures with holiday characters like Rudolph and Olaf, the snowman from the Disney movie “Frozen.”
Guests will be given battery-operated candles as they arrive to celebrate the event by candlelight, the mall said in a statement.
Never miss a local story.
An a capella group will lead a Christmas carol sing-along later in the night as the lyrics are projected onto a 24-foot movie screen. The tree will be lighted at the end of the evening.
SouthPark mall recently caused a stir when Simon Malls decided to replace its traditional Christmas tree inside with a giant faux glacier. After shoppers voiced disappointment with the decision, Simon quickly reversed course and put the tree up.
