Publix will open a new supermarket in late 2017 in Sherrills Ford, about 30 miles north of Charlotte.
The 49,000-square-foot store will be in the Village Shoppes at N.C. 150 and Slanting Bridge Road, the Florida-based grocery chain said in a recent statement.
The new store will employ about 140 people, spokeswoman Kim Reynolds said.
Publix opened its first North Carolina supermarket in Ballantyne in 2014. Since then, it has been rapidly expanding, often opening close to rival Harris Teeter. Earlier this year, Publix also said it’s opening a store in Indian Trail in 2017.
Never miss a local story.
The Sherrills Ford store will be the grocer’s 15th in the Charlotte area, which includes Rock Hill and Fort Mill, S.C.
