Medic responds to shots fired at Northlake Mall

Police and emergency crews responded to reports of shots fired at Northlake Mall Monday afternoon.

North Division patrol officers responded to a call at approximately 3:14 p.m., though they were not able to locate any victims or suspects. Officers confirmed that the shots were fired outside of the mall, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in a statement.

Medic also said it had no patients at the time, and that the scene was still being evaluated. “We are scaling back response,” Medic said in a tweet.

The mall is back open for business, and officers will continue to patrol the area for any suspicious activity, CMPD said.

“We are fully supporting the police in their investigation regarding an isolated and contained incident outside the mall,” said Sherri Chisolm-Whiteside, a mall spokeswoman.

Northlake was the scene of another notable shooting late last year. On Christmas Eve, an off-duty police officer shot and killed a teenager after an argument broke out between two groups involved in an ongoing dispute.
