Visitors describe Ocracoke Island as isolated, serene and beautiful. A visit by the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile this week also made it surreal.
“We make a scene wherever we go,” co-driver Kayla Kawalec told the Ocracoke Observer while the two visited family friends. “It takes us a half hour just to get gas.”
Six teams drive Wienermobiles around the country year-round, she said. Oscar Mayer hosts an app to track locations and is now hiring drivers it calls “hotdoggers,” according to the company website.
