A cat that was attacked by an unknown culprit in April has become Lincoln County’s first confirmed case of rabies of 2017.
LincolnHerald.net reports the cat was surrendered by someone and had been held by Animals Services since April 25. It was tested this week for rabies “after its behavior and health declined.” The tests came back positive, it was reported.
The cat was an outdoor cat and had sustained an injury of unknown origin, which is now believed to have been caused by a rabid animal, the Lincoln Herald reports.
Animal Services is asking residents in the area to be cautious of animals, both domestic and wild, it was reported.
