A motorist who was spinning his truck tires outside a Mooresville house party Friday night is now facing a second degree murder charge.
Witnesses told investigators that Davidson Christopher Hollister, 23, hit and killed another man during the display, and didn’t slow down after the incident, reports the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. The victim was identified as Clinton D. Whitley.
Hollister is also facing a felony hit and run charges, officials said.
Investigators say they found the 32-year-old victim dead in the road on Brook Glen Drive in Mooresville. An initial investigation revealed a vehicle was spinning tires in a grassy area and on the roadway near where the victim was hit, officials said.
Witnesses told investigators Hollister was the driver involved and he did not stop or slow down after striking the victim, officials said.
Deputies say the victim and Hollister were at a party on Brook Glen Drive and conflict occurred between them over a woman at the party.
A witness observed Hollister while in his truck exchange words with the victim, who was on foot. Hollister drove backwards into the grass, then forward onto the roadway, spinning tires in both directions, witnesses told investigators.
Evidence indicates Hollister then ran over the victim in the roadway before driving away, police said.
He was taken before a magistrate, given $1 million secured bond and placed in the Iredell County Detention Center pending his first appearance. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected in this case.
