Fallen trees are causing a multitude or problems in Charlotte’s Myers Park Wednesday morning, including cutting power to hundreds of homes and blocking roads, reported the Observer’s news partner WBTV.
Huge traffic backups were reported Wednesday morning in the area.
One of the fallen trees has blocked Queens Road near Providence Road, closing all lanes of Queens. It was near Harvard Place, WBTV reported.
Earlier Wednesday, a tree fell on several power lines, shutting power off for nearly 500 homes, near Selwyn Avenue and Queens Road West.
Duke Energy was assessing the damage early Wednesday and expected to have power restored to most by midday. Crews hope to restore power to Myers Park Elementary School before classes start.
Charlotte TV station WSOC says Bucknell Avenue is closed between Selwyn Avenue and Hastings Drive.
Duke Energy officials told WSOC that their priority was getting power restored to the school. WSOC is reporting CMS says school will go on as scheduled even if the power remains off.
