A Charlotte man has been charged with felony child abuse after the 2-year-old son of his girlfriend suffered traumatic brain injuries this week, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.
The boy is now at Carolinas Medical Center. Hospital staff report that his injuries are life threatening and he is unable to breathe on his own, detectives said. The child’s name has not been released.
Christopher Sims, 25, of Charlotte was arrested and charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury, police said.
Police were called at 7 p.m. Wednesday from Carolinas Medical Center, where staff were treating a boy for multiple body injuries.
During the investigation, the child’s mother and her boyfriend, Sims, were interviewed, as well as the hospital staff. The initial investigation determined the boy was left alone with Sims during the time the injuries occurred, at a home in the 1800 block of Griers Grove, police said.
The child’s mother was not named.
