Beachgoers yell “shark! shark!” in a Charlotte man’s video of a close encounter at Atlantic Beach this weekend.
Josh Fox told WSOC that he’d never seen a shark so close to shore before. It was in six to 12 inches of water Saturday afternoon, he said.
“It’s their area and we’re the guests, and so it’s something I think about any time I get in the water,” Fox told the TV station.
While shark sightings are fairly common on the Carolinas coast, attacks on people are rare.
Never miss a local story.
The International Shark Attack File records only 63 confirmed, unprovoked attacks in North Carolina waters since 1837.
