A Lincoln County woman says she was turned down for a pedicure because she weighs too much.
WSOC reports that Tiffany Nelson said the owner of QC Nails and Spa in Denver, N.C., turned her down for a pedicure after regular visits there for more than a year.
“He looked at me and said, ‘You are too big of a girl and you can’t sit in our chairs anymore. You broke our chair,’ ” Nelson told the station. She said no chairs had broken during her visits.
Spa owner Chuan Viet Dang told WSOC that Nelson hadn’t broken a chair but that a male customer did. Dang said he’s worried other chairs would break and be unsafe for customers.
Never miss a local story.
Dang said he will put a sign on the spa window to let people know about the weight limit.
No federal or state laws make it illegal to discriminate against a person based on how much they weigh, the news site reported.
