WBTV Meteorologists have declared a First Alert Day today for the possibility of showers and thunderstorms redeveloping this afternoon and lingering through the evening hours.
Some communities had an early wake-up call this morning with intense lightning and heavy downpours and the atmosphere is just as loaded for more later today. These storms could impact the afternoon commute for some and perhaps outdoor activities this evening, so keep an eye to the sky and check back with WBTV, and our free WBTV weather app.
Before any rain comes to town, Charlotte should make a run into the mid to upper 80s and it will be muggy! Dew points will be in the low to mid 70s – tropical range - so if you’re outdoors for any length of time, you’ll wind up dripping wet.
Due to the overabundance of moisture in the atmosphere, the biggest concern would be for heavy downpours, as any cell could put down a good bit of rain in a short amount of time.
Never miss a local story.
Obviously, any summer thunderstorm also brings the risk of deadly lightning and damaging wind, so be on the alert as these storms roll in this afternoon and evening.
