A thunderstorm with torrential rainfall moved into the Charlotte area late Monday.
The storm was expected to strike southwestern Mecklenburg County and east-central York County through 10:15 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Greer, S.C.
The storm moved north at 25 mph from near the Carowinds theme park to uptown, central and southwest Charlotte, including Charlotte’s airport. Pineville also was expected to be hit.
Wind gusts up to 40 mph and rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour were possible. Streams could rise rapidly, and flooding was expected in area of poor drainage.
