Hemby Children's Hospital with the help of Dunkin' Donuts Joy in Childhood Foundation and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital revealed colorful gowns with a lightning bolt on the chest for future patients with pediatric cancer as they go through treatment. The Joy in Childhood Foundation’s three-year, $1.5 million commitment to Starlight Children’s Foundation funds the Starlight Brave Gowns. The kids were treated to donuts and had their faces painted by Ashley Hamm of Hamm It Up Face Painting.
On November 7, voters will be asked to weigh in on a $922 million bond package for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. This package calls for ten completely new schools, brand new buildings to replace seven aging schools and renovations or expansions at twelve more. Justin Carr's mother, Vivian Carr, gathered with others in remembrance of her son and Keith Lamont Scott on Wednesday evening at The Village at College Downs on Old Concord Road. Scott was fatally shot by a Charlotte police officer there a year ago Wednesday. Carr died in the protests that followed.

One year after the Scott shooting, The Observer examines Charlotte City Council's three promises to address the underlying cause of the unrest. The first was to review and implement recommendations on police practices to improve trust and accountability with CMPD. The second was to create 5,000 new workforce and affordable housing units over the next three years.
