The N.C. Department of Transportation will close the two left lanes on the Interstate 277 Outer Loop at U.S. 74 East (Exit 2B) for two nights next week.
The closure is part of a project to improve bridges along I-277 in Charlotte. The lanes will be closed from 8:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. Monday and Tuesday.
Crews will be working on the I-277 bridge over Fifth Street. The project includes repairing existing structures, painting bridge beams, and putting down a new epoxy overlay or latex modified concrete on bridge decks to create a better riding surface.
Motorists will detour from the I-277 Outer Loop to U.S. 74 East to Eastway Drive (Exit 245B). Motorists will follow the loop ramp, cross over Independence Boulevard, then turn left to access U.S. 74 West.
The $16.3 million project is scheduled to be completed by July 2019.
