Emergency crews responded to two collisions involving CATS buses on Friday.
A wreck involving a CATS bus and a car off Statesville Road Friday morning left one person in the car with potentially life-threatening injuries, Medic said.
A second CATS bus was involved in a wreck with multiple vehicles about 1 p.m. Friday at North Sharon Amity Road at Monroe Road. Seven people had minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals, Medic said.
Two of the injured were passengers on bus No. 406 on CATS’ UNCC Crosstown Route, CATS spokeswoman Hillary Ryan said.
Ryan said a speeding pickup truck hit a white Volvo that then struck the bus.
The earlier collision was a head-on wreck on Spector Drive, north of Sunset Road. Medic was dispatched to the scene at 6:05 a.m., Medic spokesman Lester Oliva said.
Three other people had minor injuries, Oliva said. It was unclear if the other three were in the car or the bus, he said.
All four were taken to Carolinas Medical Center, Oliva said.
The bus was the 53X line that comes from Northlake Mall to uptown Charlotte, CATS spokesman Olaf Kinard said. He said the bus driver will undergo a drug and alcohol screening, which is routine procedure.
TV stations reported that the car driver fell asleep before the car struck the bus.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating the wrecks.
