A Navy veteran from Shelby is searching for his service dog after the animal reportedly became frightened during Fourth of July fireworks and ran away.
David Dowell, from Shelby, says he served in the U.S. Navy during Iraq and now suffers from PTSD. He was granted a service dog, a miniature Doberman, named Milka, to help with his condition.
Dowell says Milka helps with his PTSD, reminds him to take medication, and wakes him up from nightmares.
He told WBTV that he has avoided fireworks shows for years, but decided to finally check out the show in Dallas Monday night.
Dowell says after the national anthem Milka got spooked by the fireworks and ran away. He says other people saw the dog run away, but were not able to catch her.
If you see Milka, please call the Dallas Police Department.
