A cooling station opened at 9 a.m. Wednesday for Rowan County residents still without power from late-night storms.
The shelter opened at the American Red Cross office at 1930 W. Jake Alexander Blvd. in Salisbury.
About 1,150 Duke Energy customers in Rowan County remained without power at 8 a.m., down from about 4,000 at 11 p.m. Tuesday.
It could take until 10 a.m. Thursday for power to be restored to all homes, according to Rowan County Emergency Services.
Highs in the Charlotte region are expected to reach 94 Wednesday, 93 Thursday, 97 Friday and Saturday and 92 Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C.
