Four inmates were injured Friday following a mid-day fight at Lanesboro Correctional Institution, state prison officials say.
Correctional officers broke up one lunchtime fight in the prison dining hall, and then returned the inmates to their cell blocks, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
Soon afterward, more fighting broke out in a cell block. Three inmates injured in that fight were treated at a local hospital and a fourth was treated by prison medical staff.
The State Bureau of Investigation and the Polkton Police Department are investigating. Located in Polkton, about 45 miles southeast of Charlotte, Lanesboro houses about 1,200 inmates.
