Lightning strikes and heavy rain hit the Charlotte area early Monday evening. There was a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 6:30 p.m.
Harris YMCA is among thousands of customers who lost power.
Some are still without power from Friday night’s storm, when winds of about 70 mph ripped through the area leading into the weekend, leaving about 90,000 residents in the dark.
Just a couple hours ago, there were less than 300 people in Mecklenburg without power.
Shortly before 6:30, over 7,000 people the Charlotte area were stuck in the dark from tonight’s storm.
WBTV is reporting multiple downed trees because of the storm, some even on homes.
