An iridescent blue dragonfly darts through a sea of green woodland as Sharon Wilson, land stewardship director for Catawba Lands Conservancy, walks a 10-acre property along Huntersville's McCauley Road in the Rama Creek Watershed.
The Charlotte native came to the conservancy in 2004 from the U.S. Forest Service. On this day, she's walking the Huntersville property, which the conservancy is protecting from development. She keeps a running list of flora and fauna, and makes sure landowners are complying with the conservancy rules.
“It's fun to turn over stones and things to see what's under them,” she says. “That's how we find the salamanders and snakes.”
