The 12th annual Komen Charlotte Race for the Cure to raise funds to end breast cancer, was Saturday in Charlotte. Events included a 5K walk, a competitive 5K race, a noncompetitive 5K walk or run; and a 1-mile fun run/walk.
In the past five years, Komen has given $170 million in grants to help fund education, screening and treatment plans. Seventy-five percent of funds raised in a community stay in the community. Twenty-five percent goes to the national organization for research.
Last year the Charlotte affiliate awarded $1.2 million. Details: www.komencharlotte.org.
