A ruptured gas line led to a major Matthews intersection being closed Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened before 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Trade Street and Fullwood Lane. Officials said a 4-inch gas line was cut by construction crews in the area, and that natural gas was shooting out at a very high pressure.
Workers had the area taped off while they tried to find a way to close the valve and shut down the line.
The intersection was scheduled to closed for several hours as crews worked to stop the leak and repair the line. According to a tweet sent by the Matthews Police Department, all roads are now back open.
