Motorists can expect long delays on Interstate 485 and construction-related shutdowns elsewhere in the Charlotte region on Tuesday and Tuesday night.
For the second day in a row, pothole repairs are scheduled on Interstate 485 in southern Mecklenburg County.
Tuesday’s repairs will be on the outer loop, between N.C. 51 and Rea Road. They are scheduled until 4 p.m. Repairs conducted Monday on the inner loop caused miles of backups, so motorists should consider using an alternate route Tuesday.
Other work is scheduled during the day and at night:
I-85, Cabarrus: The ramp from southbound I-85 to the George Liles Parkway (Exit 54) in Kannapolis will be closed until 1 p.m., for construction.
I-85, Gaston: Two of four lanes will be closed overnight on southbound I-85 near Mount Holly. Crews are scheduled to do bridge maintenance from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists can expect delays in the area.
The morning commute was marked by a serious two-vehicle collision in southwest Charlotte.
Around 6:50 a.m., a Lincoln Aviator collided with a Toyota Camry in the intersection, and fire officials report they were called to free a trapped motorist.
The driver of the Lincoln told the Observer that two people in the Camry were taken by Medic to the hospital for treatment.
