Meanwhile, motorists in the Pineville area tonight will have to deal with a road closure on N.C. 51 at Interstate 485.
The incident in Cabarrus County took place shortly before noon. A spokesman for the City of Concord said a tractor-trailer carrying calcium nitrate suffered a broken axle.
The truck remained upright, and the chemicals were not spilled. Police, fire, Hazmat and N.C. Department of Transportation officials responded, and they closed U.S. 29 in both directions until the truck was towed away.
