The sled hockey team’s training time in Indian Trail has won over some new fans with their skills on the ice and with their friendliness out in the community.

Chad Nichols, vice president of Creative Food Concepts, the team’s caterer for the week, says he couldn’t ask for better customers.

“They couldn’t be more appreciative. We’ve fed them pot roast, cheeseburger meatloaf, lasagna, and more, and they love it all. They eat everything under the sun, and thank us every time.” Nichols said.

Brittany Crowder, a manager with Fairfield Inn and Suites Matthews, says her staff has enjoyed the team’s stay.

“They have so much enthusiasm and energy that it keeps our energy level high. ... It’s one of the best groups that we’ve had stay here,” Crowder said.

Maureen Mulhall, manager of Extreme Ice Center where the team has trained, said she can’t wait to watch the Paralympic competition on television next month.

“Getting to know these guys has been great. Now we’ll be able to actually put faces to the players who are in the games, and we’ll also know what they are achieving on a personal level as well. They are totally amazing, and, after meeting them, it really makes you think twice before complaining about anything,” Mulhall said.

Bill Sandberg, an athletic trainer with the team, said Charlotte has a good setup with plenty of direct flights to the airport, and an extremely helpful staff at the ice rink.
