The Charlotte Knights will move their fireworks shows from Saturday nights to Fridays when they move to their new uptown baseball stadium this season.
The Knights’ schedule of 14 Friday night displays and one on Sunday night includes the 38th annual WBT Skyshow, billed as the biggest fireworks display of the season, on July 4.
The first display will be on opening night at the new BB&T Ballpark, when the Knights will face the Norfolk Tides on April 11. The Knights, Class AAA members of the International League, will play a 72-game home schedule. Single-game tickets go on sale March 8.
The Knights traditionally held fireworks displays on Saturdays, but general manager Scotty Brown said the franchise is switching to Friday nights because the Knights have 14 home Friday night dates and only 10 on Saturdays this season.
Never miss a local story.
“We shifted the tradition from Saturday to Friday nights to provide more shows for our fans,” Brown said.
The schedule includes three dates in April, two in May, three in June, three in July and four in August. That includes Sunday, Aug. 31, the Knights’ final night home game of the season. In each case, game time is 7:05 p.m., with fireworks to follow. The fireworks are sponsored by WBT-AM and WLNK-FM.
The fireworks schedule is among several recent announcements from the team as it prepares for its first season in uptown after two decades at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill:
• Ticket prices this year will be $18 for field box seats; $16 for the right-field “home run seats”; $12 for the “home run porch”; $10 for left-field “power alley seats”; and $8 for standing room. Tickets will be $2 cheaper if bought in advance, and there will be $2 discounts for tickets bought at the gate for children (11 and younger), seniors (55 and older) and active military members.
• The Knights will team with Carolinas HealthCare System to provide three high school seniors with $1,000 scholarships. There also will be three $1,000 scholarships for college sophomores, sponsored by the Knights and Piedmont Natural Gas (for students attending college in Piedmont Gas service areas).
