A 61-year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon when fire destroyed her home in Alexander County, authorities say.

Fire officials identified the victim as Barbara Davis.

The sheriff’s office said a 911 call was made about 4:20 p.m., reporting a fire at a mobile home in the 800 block of McClellan Lane. That is off White Plains Road, near the Hiddenite community.

Authorities say the victim’s husband had returned home and discovered the blaze. Firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the residence when they arrived.

The woman’s body was found inside the home. Authorities say they are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
