No injuries were reported Thursday morning when fire heavily damaged a home in Mint Hill, authorities say.
The fire was reported about 10:30 a.m. at a residence in the 6200 block of Eagle Claw Court. That is off Matthews-Mint Hill Road (N.C. 51), between Lebanon Road and Lawyers Road.
Residents reported seeing smoke from nearly a mile away, as flames quickly spread through the single-story home. Crews from the Mint Hill, Idlewild, Matthews and Robinson Church fire departments were called to battle the blaze.
At one point, firefighters were order to get away from the house for safety reasons. Authorities reported that a section of the roof collapsed.
Neighbors said the homeowner escaped when the fire broke out. Investigators spent Thursday afternoon at the scene, trying to determine the cause.
