Night-time lane closures have begun on Catawba and West Catawba avenues at Interstate 77 Exit 28 in Cornelius, as contractor Blythe Construction of Charlotte converts the exit into a safer, more free-flowing diverging diamond interchange.
Through Wednesday , weather permitting, various lanes also will be closed intermittently both day and night for Blythe to reconstruct the bridge approach slabs, town officials said.
Also expect more intermittent daytime lane closures than originally scheduled throughout the project. The N.C. Department of Transportation will give as much advance notice as possible of closures, town officials said.
Blythe also might close lanes during the day to install barrels, barricades and other traffic-control devices for up to 15 minutes at a time.
The $6.2 million project will take about 1 1/2 years to complete.
