Lane closures on Independence, Catawba Avenue

State transportation crews will be closing lanes this weekend on East Independence Boulevard in east Charlotte as well as Catawba Avenue in Cornelius.
The right inbound (westbound) lane of Independence Boulevard will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, between Farmingdale Drive and Sharon Amity Road. Crews will be inspecting water valves.
The closure is connected with the $51 million project to convert Independence to a freeway.
The right eastbound lane of Catawba Avenue over I-77 will be closed from 9 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. This is part of a $5.4 million project to build a diverging diamond interchange. Observer staff reports
