Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte President Frank Spencer announced Friday that he’s leaving the agency to take a new job as CEO of the Philadelphia-based Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Spencer, who has served on that organization’s board of directors since 2012, will assume his new job in June, succeeding current President Robert W. Maggs Jr., who is retiring after 15 years of service.

“Habitat Charlotte has been fortunate to have Frank’s visionary leadership and management skills for two years,” Habitat Charlotte’s board chair Scott Bengel said in a statement. “The impact of his contributions will be felt for many years to come.”

Habitat has retained an executive placement firm to initiate a search for Spencer’s replacement.

Spencer joined Habitat Charlotte as president in May 2012. During his two-year leadership, the nonprofit housing ministry served a record number of low-income families with affordable housing and was named by Habitat for Humanity International as one of only seven Affiliates of Distinction in America.

In 2011, Spencer entered Union Presbyterian Seminary in Charlotte, and he is expected to earn a master of divinity degree later this year.

The Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (USA) has more than $9 billion in assets under management and is accountable for the benefits of about 19,500 pensioners and survivors, more than 15,000 active members, 23,000 dependents, and 8,500 inactive members.
