Kim McMillan, head of the city of Charlotte’s corporate communications office for the past seven years, is leaving the city to pursue a job in the private sector, the city announced Friday.
The office handles internal communications and represents the city to the media and public.
Keith Richardson, an assistant director, will take over the job on an interim basis.
McMillan’s new communications and marketing job will be announced by her employer in March.

McMillan held the job under city managers Pam Syfert, Curt Walton, Julie Burch and Ron Carlee.
“I truly appreciate the dedication of both Kim and Keith and the excellent work of their department. I ... wish them both success in these new adventures,” Carlee said in a statement. Steve Harrison
